High Availability using RAC

High Availability using RAC

Oracle Real Application Clusters or RAC is used for enhancing the system performance as well as for High availability. Multiple instances can be connected against the same database. Involves a cluster of nodes with access to a set of shared disks through Cluster Management Software (CMS).

Hardware Load Balancer can be used to automatically share the load between the instances. Even if one instance goes down, the other instance can still be accessed. There is little or no downtime experienced by the user.
